Abstract

In hydro systems, the problem of energy consumption minimization can be simply expressed as follows: given a load demand process, schedule the generation of hydroplants such that the potential energy at the end-of-study is maximal. To solve this problem, the authors design a procedure in which a set of search directions is first defined and then, based on the principle of reaching the equal derivative, one of the defined directions is selected at a time, in the order of favourableness of improving the objective, to meet the power demand stage-by-stage. The constraints on plant-based power ramp, minimum up/down time, up/down frequency, running scope, capacity reserve for electric power system, and so on are taken into account. With Fujian hydro systems as an example, the presented model and its solving method are practically tested and found to be efficient.
