We discuss the global asymptotic stabilization of a chem ical stirred tank reactor. Stabilization is achieved using a multivariable linear time invariant PID-controller with full state feedback. The proposed design method relies on the direct method of Liapunov. For the purpose of controller parameter tuning we propose to compute and numerically maximize stability regions in state space, defining sets of initial states from which convergence to the set point is en sured under given bounds on the admissible variations of state or control variables.
