This paper demonstrates that expert system rules developed for specific systems can now be automatically generated for generic systems and deployed in web-based environment by integrating the standardized technologies, such as the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), that are emerging in the various industries. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are used in this paper to illustrate this trend of intelligent system development with the existing expert system technology.
