As information techniques are improving they offer a chance for developing new tools for teaching. The Tampere University of Technology (TUT) has been involved in developing web based teaching environments for some time now. Based on this development, a virtual laboratory exercise of electrical safety was constructed. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the experiences of using virtual laboratory exercise as a teaching tool. The virtual laboratory exercise was taken to the course curriculum in fall 2002, when 123 students attended it and gave feedback. According to the feedback received from the students, this type of virtual education is worth further development.
