The most widely adopted optimization techniques present some limitations that actually make them not suitable to solve some problems that can arise when coping with prac tical applications. The optimal features of an optimiza tion algorithm derive from a combination of the advan tages of many different methods. The paper presents a novel algorithm for the solution of optimization problems which attempts to overcome the drawbacks of some exist ing methods by combinating their positive characteristics. Two practical applications have been presented in order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. Nu merical results are presented and discussed.
