In this paper the advances in Internet-based e manufacturing and applications are critically reviewed. The characteristics and potential of e-manufacturing are presented with a number of application exemplars. The paper concludes with a further discussion on the promises and impact of e-manufacturing technology and philosophy on modern manufacturing industry.
