UWB MAC Multimedia CSMA/CAS-ALOHA
: The Ultra-wide-band (UWB) is an emerging radio technology for high rate wireless network and is an ideal transmission technology for wireless multimedia applications. UWB is characterized by an extremely broad use of the radio spectrum and the significant advantages of this technology are low-power operation, mitigated multi-path fading effects and unique precise position/timing location ability. Hence, it is important for current medium access control (MAC) protocol design to consider the above characteristics of UWB. In this paper, we study the performance of two proposed MAC protocols for UWB- the IEEE 802.15.3 MAC protocol and S-ALOHA protocol in the context of UWB wireless network. We study effects of varying packet size and packet arrival rate and present a total analysis about the two protocols and then give performance analysis about the advantages and disadvantages of the two MAC protocols based on UWB technology.
