Abstract

Although many multimedia frameworks have been used in the Windows platform, there is no obvious solution for consumer electronics devices. In this paper, we propose a multimedia framework, which supports multiple OS and multiple audio/video codecs. The proposed framework is based on multi-layer structure including OS adaptation layer and hardware adaptation layer. Furthermore, all components including input methods, audio/video codecs, and renderers can be easily used by flexble plug-in architecture. It enables us to use the proposed framework for consumer electronics devices, which has less processing power and memory. We implemented a wireless home media center on embedded Linux using the proposed framework.
