Component abnormality detection, recovery, andsurvivability
As information systems have become ever more complex, the interdependence of these systems has increased; consequently, the issue of survivability has also become increasingly complicated. The need for survivability is most pressing for mission-critical systems, especially when they are integrated with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products or services. To make a system survivable, it is the mission of the system, rather than the individual functions of the system, to survive. In this paper, we introduce our definition of survivability and discuss the mechanisms at the component level for abnormality detection and analysis, as well as the corresponding survivability reactions.
