TCSC, SSR, Simulation and modelling.
: Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) can offer flexible control of power flow, secure damping of power oscillation as well as suppressing of Sub synchronous Resonance (SSR). In this paper, a nonlinear continuous model is developed for Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). This model reveals important characteristics that are useful for SSR damping. A new technique is used to apply the detailed TCSC time domain model in simulation tools like Alternative Transient Program (ATP) and Power System Blockset (PSB)/MATLAB. The applied firing angle is controlled to desired mode of operation for TCSC. The model developed is continuous and simple to use. The paper presents the results from the studies carried out on a typical series compensated HV transmission line.
