Recently a large variety of evaluation criteria have become necessary prerequisites in academia to allow for proper dis tribution of (e.g., financial) resources. While many fields have quite some history in evaluating their research in vari ous directions this does not seem to be the case for the field of machine translation (beyond some effectiveness mea sures). In this paper we raise some questions in this respect while performing some initial steps regarding a scientomet ric analysis within the field of machine translation based on some common publications.
