This paper presents the use of a Beowulf cluster to simulate massive parallel computing in classrooms. As part of our curriculum design for the Parallel Computing course at University of Houston-Downtown, we configured the cluster of PCs and built a lab package based on the cluster. The lab package provides an environment in which students can experiment massive parallel computing in classrooms. The lab package has a GUI interface for the students to load an MPI program onto the cluster, compile and run the program. Students get a hand-on experience in solving large-scale application problems and the initial use of the package is very promising.
