Protection and Control, Surge Protective Device, Effective Protection Distance.
The effective protection distance is the maximum allowable length of the line between an SPD (Surge Protective Device) and the equipment to be protected. The evaluation of this quantity can be performed in many ways and a standard procedure does not exist. The aim of this work is to contribute to the proposal of a simple and reliable calculating method. This aim has been pursued by combining the results of a theoretical analysis with those of a series of numerical simulations.
