Computer Adaptive, Placement Examination, Testing Tool, Tutorial
Placement examinations are an important method of evaluating the success potential of students for entry into particular courses. The placement examinations typically place a student in a course, but there is little or no accommodation for missing or misunderstood concepts. This research effort concentrated on providing the students with the computer-adaptive placement examinations by having the capability of providing tutorials. The individuals under consideration were freshman engineering students who would be enrolling in computer science and mathematics courses. A prototype of a web-based placement examination system is described from the standpoint of the research effort, end user, and software development.
