The progressive still image coding method using wavelet transform based on visual region is presented. Providing priorities of transmission with the coding blocks of visual regions, the image can be recognized more naturally for human visual system. Experimental results of comparing with the conventional method are given, and we conclude that the images displayed by our method have the function to attract users' attention.
