Abstract

This paper addresses the usage of the boundary-layer concept in removing the chatter that occurs in sliding mode control applications in the area of controlling the speed of induction motors. Although this concept succeeds in removing the chatter from the system, it introduces a stability problem. Based on the advantages and disadvantages of this solution, a fuzzy sliding controller is introduced as a method to improve the performance of the system. The proposed sliding controller ensures the stability of the overall system. The proposed controller is verified by simulation and compared to the common vector control method.
