Optical CDMA, time-wavelength codes, and beat noise.
The performance of 2-D time-wavelength M-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) systems utilizing coherent light sources is investigated. Beat noise, multiple access interference, thermal, shot, and relative intensity noise are considered in the analysis. In addition, comparisons between systems with PPM and on-off keying (OOK) formats in both physical and link layer metrics are performed. Numerical results show that, for high pulse position multiplicity, M, systems with PPM accommodates higher numbers of simultaneous users at data rates suitable for local area networks requirements.
