This paper presents an adaptive bilinear control technique using thyristor-controlled series capacitor for enhancement of power system transient stability. This is achieved by incorporating the nonlinearities of the underlying system into the design of the control law. The control law accounts for dynamic changes of the system due to system’s inherent nonlinearities as well as accommodates changes in system parameters. Simulation results indicate that the adaptive bilinear control technique using thyristor-controlled series capacitor is capable of increasing the region of stability and this provides good damping to a single machine infinite bus power system.
