Botswana’s rivers are highly variable and runoff is low. Reservoir sizes must be many times the mean annual flow unless variable draft and conjunctive use policies are employed. A correlation is made between rivers in the north and rivers in the south to try to offset shortfall in one region with surplus in another. .Computer rainfall runoff modelling is done to extend monthly time series and reservoir operation is simulated to illustrate the increase in yield possible with different operating rules.
