Porting, Benchmarking, Operating Systems, Optimization
In 2004, a research project was undertaken to discover performance issues that arise when using the QNX real time operating system as a general-purpose server operating system. The plan is to see how well QNX does in relation to Linux, on the Intel x86 platform. To aid in this, a benchmark suite was selected: AIM Multiuser benchmark - suite VII (AIM VII). AIM VII does not compile and run on QNX “out-of-the-box”, so it had to be ported to QNX. This paper describes the approach we took to porting AIM VII, problems encountered, and how we solved them.
