Abstract

This paper sets out a pedagogical platform dedicated to Computer Science and Numerical Electronics experiments. A virtual environment offers a virtual robot described in a standard Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) format. The virtual robot is linked to a real robot by means of a development kit that implements a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) based chip. This platform enables students to test algorithms with the virtual robot and to control the real robot through the development of a digital circuit using a hardware description language (VHDL - Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language) module they have to design and download to the development kit.
