Abstract

A robust engineering study was completed on an injection molded thin walled 3-D box shaped component. Three noise factors were investigated: wall thickness, glass fiber content and production cycle pull point. An L18 Taguchi experiment was completed to determine the robust processing factors that maximized dimensional stability and minimized warpage. This includes all parameters and noise conditions. The optimum machine control levels were determined that provide the least warpage of the box component. The primary focus of this research was to perform a statistical analysis of the warpage of the box component and provide robustness to varying processing conditions and noise factors.
