Abstract

This paper evaluates three different acceleration models, Single Regime, Dual Regime and Modified Triangular Model by comparing the model’s velocity profiles to the field data for left-turning vehicles at un signalized stop-controlled intersection. The point of discontinuity in the velocity profile for the Dual Regime model is compared with the values obtained in the previous studies for straight maneuvering vehicles. Further, the point of and the time to reach maximum acceleration is found and used for evaluating Modified Triangular Model. Modeling of realistic acceleration behavior of vehicles is a key issue in the accuracy of microscopic simulation models. Under normal driving conditions, acceleration characteristics are essential for the analysis of operating cost, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions, as well as in intersection and acceleration lane design.
