Electronic Health Record (EHR), Health Level 7 Clinical Document Architecture (HL7-CDA), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Java
The Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems are a necessary component in telemedicine applications. The EHR standardization is an important aspect to exchange health information. There are several international institutions concerned with EHR standardization. HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and ISO/TC 215 are intensively influencing in the standardization process. This paper presents TeleOftalWeb 3.2, a web-based application to exchange EHR in ophthalmology by using Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Java technologies. HL7-CDA and ISO/TC 215 specifications are applied. The architecture is a typical three-layered. A native XML database (dbXML 2.0) has been used to store EHR and medical images.
