EPON Networks, DBA Algorithms, Performance
Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) has been used as a solution to the last mile access network. EPON consists of an OLT (Optical Line Terminal) and a set of ONUs (Optical Network Units) connected through star topology. In order to avoid data collision at the upstream channel (from ONUs to the OLT), the bandwidth must be shared among all ONUs, what is achieved using a bandwidth allocation algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic bandwidth algorithm, called CCS-DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth allocation based on Common Channel Signaling). The performance of this algorithm is compared, based on simulation, to some bandwidth allocation algorithms previously presented in the literature, in an end user environment.
