Abstract

This paper presents a novel mobile augmented reality (MAR) centered interactive electronic technical manual (IETM) system based on improved corner extraction algorithm and feature point matching algorithm, which is applied to ship equipment management and technical support activities on smartphone platform. This study attempts to solve restriction in searching and acquiring specified information of conventional materials consisting of huge volume and various document types by MAR technology and solve restriction in calculation and power consumption of IETM system running on mobile phones by algorithm optimization. Feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme were evaluated by 70 seniors majored in marine engineering from Guangdong Ocean University. The experimental results show that MAR IETM system has strong practicability, good robustness and easy operating advantages and is more conducive to saving computing resources and power consumption of smartphone devices, which are benefits to ship management reality.
