CMMS, deregulation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, predic-tive maintenance
Power systems usually involve millions of pieces of maintenance- intensive equipment whose reliability and availability are important to power system security and safety. It is necessary to use computers to deal with this tremendous volume of complex information. The authors introduce computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to deal with this problem, and discuss the general infor- mation process model proposed by Hassanain in order to implement the CMMS successfully. This general model consists of five sequen- tial management processes: identify assets, identify performance requirements, assess performance, plan maintenance, and manage maintenance operations. The information model of each process is also detailed. Successful CMMS is expected to help electric utili- ties manage resources effectively and considerably improve utilities’ efficiency.
